Composer, producer and saxophonist, Romain Mercier was born in 1985 and lives in Angers (France). He graduated in 2007 with a DEM (diploma of musical studies) of Jazz at the Music Conservatory of Tours (France) and at the school of Jazz and Contemporary Music "Jazz à Tours". He holds the FNEIJMA certificate in 2006 and is certified Apple Logic Pro (Music Software) in 2013.
As a composer, he collaborates with choreographers and directors such as David Wampach (new creation 2020), Aina Alegre («Délices» 2015, «Le Jour De La Bête» 2017, «La Nuit, Nos Autres» 2019), Cosima Grand («Hitchhiking Through Winterland» 2018, «Mercier&Grand» 2019), Betty Tchomanga («-A- Ou il a vraiment peur de l'eau le poisson» 2012), Samir Elyamni («Limit» 2005), Hadrien Touret («Le Dormeur» 2012), Barthélémy Etiévant («Giula» 2013)… .
As a saxophonist, he has been playing in a wide variety of bands for over 15 years in Europe and around the world. He practiced particularly jazz and experimental music, some traditional music such as Mandingo music from Mali and also participates in different projects of Pop and Electro music. He collaborates with Michael Edward Edgerton, Ahmed Fofana, Etienne Ziemniak, François Collet, Jean-Christophe Cholet, Jakub Trzepizur, Assaba Drame…
He was the Musical Director of the “Festival Angers&Bamako” which took place in Mali in 2010. Between 2016 and 2018, he was Artistic Director in France of the Japanese group Faith-Inc. who develops several activities in the musical world (record companies, digital applications, creation of audio content ...).
He also composes music or sound-design for brands and events such as Europcar, Thales, UEFA Euro 2016, The World Electronics Forum, …
